As a young and wide-eyed girl, I traveled half way around the world in the late ‘80s on a mission to get a better understanding about what our global family really was. Growing up in a deeply religious family (my father is the head of the Council of Churches of Canada), I had many questions about how the teachings about what was ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ would stand up in the larger world’s context.
Looking out the window of the steel Garuda bird that I was travelling in, I lost my breath when we entered Bali’s airspace – the tropical clouds parted, revealing one of the most enchanting things I had ever witnessed - a shimmering green emerald perfectly set in a mystical turquoise, azure and indigo sea.
The enchantment of Bali had begun….
